  • The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts announces the Spring 2013 Art & Community Visual Arts Residency Program partnership between DCCA artist in residence Eric Leshinsky with the Wilmington community and Preservation Initiatives.
Leshinsky's "Peoples Park" project is a three-phase process of engaging the Wilmington community, in the development, installation, and enjoyment of a temporary public park in a vacant lot on Market Street. The principal goal of the project is to elicit a diverse range of possible public space designs from the Wilmington community. Through this process, participants are encouraged to involve themselves in the policy and design decisions that will guide the future of downtown Wilmington.
Leshinsky will be present during Wilmington's Art on the Town opening at the DCCA on Friday, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. During the Art on the Town opening, Leshinsky will present the final phase of his project during the Social imPERFECT Experiment and tweetup (@thedccaorg #utopia) in the imPERFECT City galleries. Additionally, on April between 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Leshinsky will be featured on the DCCA Drift marathon run at the Peoples Park site of 412-416 N. Market Street.
Leshinsky will speak at the DCCA imPERFECT City Town Hall Meeting on April 11 at 11 a.m. He will return to the Peoples Park Design Studio within the exhibition imPERFECT City during the Gretchen Hupfel Symposium on June 8, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please contact Sarah Ware, curator of education, at sware@thedcca.org or 302-656-6466 x7101 for more information.
