Big League Productions will bring the Tony and Academy Award-winning musical “Dreamgirls” to the DuPont Theatre for eight sizzling performances, from April 2 through April 7.
Tale of triumph and tribulations
This new multi-media production of “Dreamgirls” tells the story of “The Dreams” ─ a budding girl-group during the ‘60s, inspired by the career of Diana Ross and The Supremes ─ as they wade through the pleasure and pain that follows many music groups seeking a career of riches and glory.
The winner of six Tony Awards and two Grammy Awards, “Dreamgirls” premiered on Broadway in 1981. Through multiple revivals and an award-winning 2006 motion picture adaptation, it’s remained an audience favorite for more than three decades.
“Dreamgirls” features unforgettable hits by Academy Award nominee Henry Krieger ─ including "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," "One Night Only" and "Listen" ─ and book and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award-winner Tom Eyen.
Acclaimed creative team
This “Dreamgirls” musical has been created by first-class Broadway veterans, including respected Broadway director and choreographer Bobby Longbottom (with additional choreography from “So You Think You Can Dance’s” Shane Sparks), and scenery, costumes and lighting designed by the highly-decorated and multiple Tony Award-winning team of Robin Wagner, William Ivey Long and Ken Billington.
