  • GrassBusters Landscaping Company Inc., of Newark, is scheduled to begin construction on the Carpenter Street Enhancements for the city of Wilmington on Monday, April 1, DelDOT officials said.
Carpenter Street will be closed to through traffic as a result and will be only open to local traffic, Delaware Department of Transportation spokeswoman Louise A. Holt said. Van Buren Street will have lane and parking restrictions.
Construction is expected to be completed in approximately 68 calendar days, pending weather, Holt said.
The location of the project will be on Carpenter Street between Jackson Street and Van Buren Street, she said. Wilmington applied for and was awarded a Transportation Enhancement Project that would help fund the city's downtown revitalization effort to improve pedestrian mobility and safety in the area.
This project will include construction of pedestrian and traffic calming facilities along Carpenter Street, new curbs, installation of curb ramp improvements to meet compliance regulations with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), improved signage, paving, and pedestrian lighting.
