  • Ahead of the Brandywine Valley's premiere spring social event, Point-to-Point, Winterthur has arranged pre-event activities to help guests prepare for the excitement and pageantry of the 35th annual steeplechase on May 5.
    Tailgating tips
    For those who want to prepare the most festive tailgate spread for the event on May 5, there are three opportunities to learn from local celebrity chefs, master Chef Jennifer Behm and Julio Lazzarini. Their demonstrations will include tips and tastings to "spice up" your tailgate. Join them at these classes:
    Wednesday, March 20, 6:30 – 8:30 pm -- Cooking Demonstration at Kitchen & Company Christiana, Center Pointe Plaza, 1307 New Churchman's Rd., Christiana.
    Wednesday, April 3, 6:30 – 8:30 pm -- Cooking demonstration at BBC Tavern, 4019 Kennett Pike, Greenville.
    Wednesday, April 10, 6:30 – 8:30 pm -- Cooking Demonstration at Kitchen & Company Wilmington, Route 202 Shopping Center, 5333 Concord Pike, Wilmington.
    Limited to 30 people. $20 per person (includes recipes).

    For the perfect ensemble in keeping with the grand horse racing tradition of beautiful headwear and a striking dress that celebrates spring, arrangements have been made for a day of shopping:
    Thursday, April 18, 1:00 – 5:00 pm — Helen Kaminski Anniversary Hat Trunk Show featuring the official headpiece of Point-to-Point, the Vilamoura design, at Houpette Powder Mill Shopping Center, Greenville.
    INVITATION ONLY — Thursday April 18, 6:00 – 8:00 pm — Private Point-to-Point Party shopping event at Peter Kate boutique, Powder Mill Shopping Center, Greenville, Delaware, 19807. Food and wine provided by Lisa's Gone Nuts.

    Winterthur — known worldwide for its preeminent collection of American decorative arts, naturalistic gardens, and research library for the study of American art and material culture — offers a variety of tours, exhibitions, programs, and activities throughout the year. General admission includes a tour of some of the most notable spaces in the 175-room house as well as access to the Winterthur Garden and Galleries, special exhibitions, a narrated tram tour (weather permitting), the Campbell Collection of Soup Tureens, and the Enchanted Woods children's garden. $18 adults; $16 for students and seniors; $5 for ages 2–11. Tickets are valid for two consecutive days.
    Museum hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Tuesday–Sunday. Winterthur, located on Route 52, six miles northwest of Wilmington, Delaware, and five miles south of U.S. Route 1, is closed on Mondays (except during Yuletide), Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
