The Delaware Division of Public Health is reviewing a drug recall March 19 to determine if Delaware received any of the recalled products from Med Prep Consulting Inc. of Tinton, Falls, N.J.
Med Prep is voluntarily recalling all lots of products compounded at its facility. The recall resulted from the pharmacy being notified by a Connecticut hospital that it observed visible contaminants in 50 ml bags of Magnesium Sulfate intravenous solution that were confirmed to be mold.
The pharmacy included all compounded products in the voluntary recall due to lack of sterility assurance. Although administration of an intravenous product found to be contaminated with mold could result in a fatal infection, it is uncertain whether the mold found in these products can cause illness in humans. Additional information will be provided on Wednesday.
