The businesses located in the Fenimore House are celebrating the historic home's 250th birthday on Wednesday, March 20.

This year marks the 250th birthday of the Fenimore house, located at 7503 Lancaster Pike, the site of Corrective Chiropractic and Stacia's Mastery and Body Mind Spirit Massage. The tenants are celebrating the landmark's history by hosting a birthday party, and they are inviting the community on Wednesday, March 20, from 5-8 p.m.

Dr. Chad Laurence of Corrective Chiropractic, along with his neighbors are inviting the community for refreshments and a tour of the building. Woodside Farm Creamery, founded in 1796, will be at Corrective Chiropractic offering various ice cream flavors. Chefs' Haven of Hockessin, a local specialty food store that offers cooking classes to the community, will be showcasing various dishes and appetizers. Robyn's Nest Catering will also be serving hot hors d'oeuvres. Stacia's Mastery and Body Mind Spirit Massage will be serving catered, healthy delights, and will be doing informal presentations on essential oils, bodywork and cleansing.

The Fenimore House is a mainstay in Hockessin, and has remained as Hockessin continued to change and grow. Built by the Dixon family in 1763, what started as a private home quickly changed functions due to the changing landscape of the 18th and 19th centuries. During the battle of the Brandywine during the Revolutionary War, it was used as an infirmary to care and treat Colonial and British soldiers. The home became known as "Strathworth." Human services continued 75 years later, during the Civil War, and some argue that "Strathworth" was used as a part of the Underground Railroad.

Today the house still retains most of its historic charm, boasting polished hardwood floors, beautiful 18th century shelving and closets, 6 fireplaces, 19th century door handles and 20-inch granite walls. Corrective Chiropractic is located on the bottom portion of the house, with Body, Mind, Spirit Massage up the stairs.
