Spring season for the performing arts is heating up with a passion.
DREAMGIRLS at The DuPont Theatre - April 2-7
Consider for a moment your favorite and most cerebrum-imprinting Broadway show stopping numbers. I will give you 60 seconds. Start now....
Okay. Now we are back in real time. "And I Tell You I'm Not Going" is de rigueur for that list. When Aisle Say first heard that tune - with the gut wrenching emotion, the tension amongst the singers, the ground-breaking potential of the trio leading up to it - I was reduced to a babbling, amorphous and gelatinous tearful nothingness.
In the '60's, Diana Ross and the Supremes were trying to make it big. This show covers their path to greatness; a multiple Tony Award winner. Mucho pizzazz!

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM - First State Ballet Theatre - April 13-14
Delaware's only professional ballet company premieres this wondrous story of love, laughter and magic. I personally always aspired to play the fairies Pease blossom or Mustard seed, but, alas, it was never to be.
UD REP Ensemble staged the live performance 2 years ago. Last year, in the open air, DE Shakespeare Festival did the same at Rockwood. Now, for the first time here in DE, it will be done in ballet. There is no doubt it will be magic.
Performances at The Grand. April 13 at 7pm, April 14 at 2pm. FirstStateBallet.com ticketsatthegrand.org
ROCK AND ROLL LEGENDS - The Grand Opera House - April 27
My favorite phrase at high school canteens in the '60's was "Ladies Choice!". I was a half decent jitterbugger and was fairly confidant of being chosen for Jimmy Clanton's "Just A Dream". Now I get to relive those memories on April 27. Not only will Jimmy be there for ROCK AND ROLL LEGENDS but a classic collection of his colleagues. This means there will be a WHOLE lot of shakin' goin' on.
