  • There's a strong possibility spectators might witness history at Wilmington Christian School's production of the musical "Jane Eyre," in which the school will present two shows on Friday and Saturday.
    'It will be the greatest'
"Jane Eyre" features a skilled cast with repertoires of All-State and All-Eastern voice and musicians, of which some students have performed in noted venues such as The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, The Grand, as well as with OperaDelaware and in national Poetry Out Loud competitions.
"Jane Eyre" producer and musical director Barbara Schiller, who's also WCS's fine arts director, feels the production's entire team, from its director (Allyson Good) to its talented cast, has the chance to make a grand impression on showgoers.
"I told the Wilmington Christian School faculty, I believe if we can pull this off, it will be the greatest musical production WCS has ever produced. And we've been producing musicals since 1985," Schiller said. "This year our seniors are unbelievably good, and even the younger kids. This is the year to do the show because we have the students who are able to do it."
    The lowdown
Set in 19th-century England, "Jane Eyre" tells the story of Jane, our heroine, who suffers injustices throughout her live only to learn that the road to peace is paved with love and forgiveness. The show weaves in classical gothic tunes scored by Paul Gordon.
The script of "Jayne Eyre" was written by John Caird, and the lyrics were penned by both Gordon and Caird. The production is inspired by Charlotte Brontë's original novel of the same name.
