Fun and health will go hand-in-hand at the Delaware Children's Museum this March, as children learn how to have fun while keeping their bodies fit and healthy. And as spring approaches, it's the perfect time to explore ways to stay active indoors and out.
From this Saturday, through April, children can play and exercise their way through the "DCM Gym" with different stations that will put their strength, agility, and other skills to the test. Exploring the power of their bodies, kids will jump, stretch, tumble, and skip through fun exercises designed just for them.
On Saturday March 19, join in on the fun and learning in the DCM's "Junior Engineers" series, led by high school students in The Charter School of Wilmington's "Science Ambassadors" program. This month, aspiring engineers-in-training can try their hand at building a sea-worthy vessel out of LEGO bricks and K'NEX and testing if she floats.
Continuing the month-long focus on a fun and healthy lifestyle, parents can join in for "Growing Together," a new monthly seminar series presented by Nemours, on March 20. This month's topic will focus on "Rainy Day Play", where parents will get tips about how to keep their children active (even when the rain keeps them indoors), as well as how to make healthy snacks as a family.
On March 23, families can join for a special "HEALTHY Hour" with the Junior League of Wilmington. Children will learn how to portion a nutritious meal, make their own healthy trail mix, and get their bodies moving in a scooter race and obstacle course!
On March 28, families can exercise their ears and lungs during a special performance of "Pee Wee Glee Club: The Obertones." Joining for the second year in a row, this all-male a capella group from Oberlin College, OH, will perform an interactive set that is sure to get you on your feet. After the performance, The Obertones will teach some beat-boxing tips and tricks, and they'll also lead everyone in a big-group, a capella sing-a-long.
