Awards will be given in 25 categories with live performances by six of last year's Homey winners at the ceremony, taking place downstairs at World Cafe Live at The Queen on March 8th.
Since 1996, WSTW's Hometown Heroes has spotlighted the best local, original music in Delaware and the surrounding area, including Southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey and Northern Maryland. Hosted by Mark Rogers since 2006, Hometown Heroes regularly features in-studio performances and interviews with some of the region's best known talents as well as up-and-coming artists and bands looking to gain exposure.
Out of the 25 categories in this year's Homey Awards, nominees for 24 of the categories were determined entirely by listener and fan voting. The winners are determined by votes of the Homey Voting Panel, which includes past Homey winners, members of the media and others involved in the local music scene. The nominees and winner of the 25th category, Artist of the Year, are decided solely by the Homey Voting Panel.
The event marks Hometown Heroes' first formal collaboration with Gable Music Ventures, a promotion and management agency focused on revitalizing the local original music scene in Delaware. Made up of Wilmingtonians Gayle Dillman and Jeremy Hebbel, Gable is best known for their pop-up showcases and annual festivals including the Ladybug Festival and the Wilmo Rock Circus (a Homey winner last year).
"This is an outstanding opportunity for Wilmington's music scene and a true testament to its growth," Dillman said.
With the rejuvenation of Market Street and with venues such as World Cafe Live and The Grand presenting more opportunities to showcase up-and-coming musicians before a live audience, the Homey Awards are a night to celebrate how far Delaware has come in the seven years since its inception.
This event also marks the first performances in more than a year from two of the ceremony's featured performers: IKE and Brett Talley Band. Last year, both bands took home multiple awards including Best EP (IKE), Song of the Year (Brett Talley Band) and Best Guitarist (Brett Talley of both bands). Also featured is a performance from last year's Artist of the Year, multi-instrumentalist Angela Shiek, who took home first place in the 2011 Boss Loop Station World Championship's US Finals.
