The Hockessin Business Association has started creating “Destination Hockessin” baskets, which are filled with goodies and gift certificates from local businesses around Hockessin.
Many local businesses often donate their goods and services to charity, but rarely do you see them coming together to give back bigger and better.
This is what the Hockessin Business Association decided to do last fall when they started creating "Destination Hockessin" baskets, which are filled with goodies and gift certificates from local businesses around Hockessin. The baskets are then donated to local charities that are having silent auctions.
Chad Laurence, a chiropractor in Hockessin, has helped spearhead the concept.
"There are over 200 businesses in Hockessin. It is a great way to give back to charities that we may not be aware of and to build a tight-knit community," he said.
So far, the group has donated ten baskets to charity, and they are looking to donate at least 35 more by the end of the year.
Laurence's advice to business owners who want to participate is simple: "Drop off a stack of ten gift certificates from your store and give me a list of charities that you would like us to donate to," he said. This way, he said he can build a number of baskets at a time without running out of items to fill the baskets.
