There's a local art show, beloved musical production and a concert featuring a Tom Petty tribute band this weekend, and more.

1. Hockessin Art Festival

The Wilmington & Western Railroad's Hockessin Art Festival will feature 25-plus artisans from around the region, spanning various disciplines and styles, at the Hockessin Memorial Hall this weekend. A preview of the event will be held Friday evening, featuring light refreshments, and the show will officially open on Saturday and end Sunday.

Artists will be displaying and selling limited edition prints, original watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, sculptures and carvings.

The Hockessin Art Show is a fundraising effort for Wilmington & Western Railroad, now entering its 47th year of tourist service. Thirty percent of all art sales will benefit Wilmington & Western Railroad and will be directed towards its operating expenses.

2. 'Just 45 Minutes From Broadway'

Whether she's wowing audiences on Broadway or entertaining at the kitchen table, Pandora Isaacs feels all the world's her stage. Yet now she's living out a scene of heartbreak in the dramedy "Just 45 Minutes From Broadway" at the Theatre N tonight. Show dates will also run on Saturday and Sunday.

Stinging from a recent romantic break-up, Isaacs (Tanna Frederick) returns to the safety of her parents' home in upstate New York — just 45 minutes from Broadway — where her non-theatrical sister, Betsy (Julie Davis), and her sister's non-Jewish fiancé, James (Judd Nelson), are also arriving for the weekend and the family's yearly Passover Seder. Sibling rivalries, family secrets and the possibility of true love all begin to blossom, but at what cost?

3. Tom Petty tribute band

Before you can see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at the 2013 Firefly Music Festival in Dover this summer, Heartbreakers tribute band The Big Jangle will do you a big favor Friday night when they gig at the Kennett Flash.

Assembled in 2010, The Big Jangle is a six-piece tribute band featuring lifelong musicians from the tri-state area. Based in Philadelphia, Pa., The Big Jangle covers tunes that span all stages of Tom Petty's career, including the bootlegs and live releases of the outfit.

4. Gilbert and Sullivan's 'H.M.S. Pinafore'

The comedic operetta "H.M.S. Pinafore," considered one of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan's finest theatrical works, will open at The Grand on Saturday, with its final show on Sunday.

Filled with romance and intrigue, "H.M.S. Pinafore" spoofs opera conventions and British social mores in a convoluted tale of mistaken identity and star-crossed lovers. The show will be performed by the internationally known New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players, which is in its fourth decade of operation and is recognized as one of the country's preeminent professional Gilbert and Sullivan repertory ensembles.

5. Exquisite butterfly exhibit

This entire weekend families will feel the warmth of spring when gazing at photographer Harold Davis' fabulous images of butterflies at the Delaware Museum of Natural History in an exhibit entitled: "Butterflies at Bucktoe: Photographs by Harold Davis."

For the past four years, Davis, of Chadds Ford, Pa., has spent much of his free time documenting butterflies at Bucktoe Creek Preserve, a privately-owned natural area located near Kennett Square, Pa.

This exhibit features 14 impressive photographs with interpretation by the Delaware Nature Society's Jim White. The photographs are available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Museum.
