the New Castle County 4-H Sheep Club from the Pike Creek/Newark location recently received a grant from the Farm Bureau.
The top officers of the New Castle County 4-H Sheep Club from the Pike Creek/Newark location wrote a proposal for support to the New Castle County Farm Bureau. Gary Warren, the State President of the Farm Bureau, attended the recent January club opening meet for the 2013 year. He explained the upcoming support and provided the club with the $1,000 grant for their work with livestock and sheep.
The 4-H club had talented youth that are now mentoring younger members and moving on with excellent leadership skills all learned from this hand on project. They each raise lambs from a few weeks of age to the stages of showmanship and judging on our local, county and state level. This market club has also expanded to have 4-H'ers work with Breed Shropshire sheep that are judged on this level as well.
Recently, McKenzie McCracken's lamb, Big Mama, won the Pennsylvania Farm Show as Grand Champion Ewe for her class.
