  • Serafin String Quartet will perform an annual tribute to former Serafin violist Anthony "Tony" Simmons in a memorial concert on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at The Music School of Delaware in Wilmington.
Simmons, a founding member of the Quartet, was tragically killed in a car accident on Feb. 24, 2005 at the age of 38. The concert memorializes Tony and benefits the Anthony G. Simmons Scholarship Fund which provides financial aid for needy students of The Music School.
Fellow founding quartet member, Kate Ransom, who is also president of the Music School, says, "Were it not for Tony Simmons, there would likely have been no Serafin String Quartet. His love of chamber music and of collaboration were formative for the Quartet. He brought similar devotion to his many students."
Simmons served on the The Music School of Delaware's faculty, as did his wife Marka, and at Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. He was violist for numerous orchestras and chamber ensembles in the Mid-Atlantic region, including the Delaware and Harrisburg Symphony Orchestras and Relache. He toured Japan and recorded with tSre Symphony Orchestra.
