  • Double trouble is headed to the Arden Gild Hall this weekend, in the guise of concerts by rock band Free Energy on Saturday, and folk duo Brown Bird on Sunday.
The Philly rockers Free Energy return to the Gild Hall after a mighty performance at the venue in 2011. This time the guys will be armed with their new, catchy album "Love Sign," released this year, which includes the sugary single "Girls Want Rock."
Free Energy will play with guest band Bleeding Rainbow, a psychedelic outfit also based in Philly.
The next day, the Brown Bird's David Lamb (guitar, banjo, percussion and vocals) and MorganEve Swain (fiddle, cello, upright bass and vocals) will spread their wings on the Gild Hall stage.
Hailing from Rhode Island, Brown Bird will feature fellow Rhode Islander Joe Fletcher, of Joe & the Wrong Reasons, as the show's opener.
Brown Bird continues to build their sound from the foundations of blues and American roots, utilizing simple foot-percussion, violin cello and upright bass that they've become known for, while expanding Swain's vocal presence and flaunting Lamb's lyrical mastery.
The folk duo is slated to release their new record, "Fits of Reason," in spring. The album is inspired by the writings of Plato, Omar Khayyam, Christopher Hitchens and others, and grapples with the human condition in a smooth but unapologetic departure from the band's previous release," Salt for Salt," which dropped in 2011.
With the introduction of electric guitar, electric bass and a more prominent display of the band's Middle Eastern, metal and psych-rock influences, "Fits of Reason" dives into heavier territory.
