Pain is beauty right? Well, not always, especially if you are considering eyelash extensions. No, not the ones you can buy at the drugstore and apply yourself in minutes. These are applied by a trained esthetician who applies the extensions one at a time to each individual lash. When applied correctly, eyelash extensions last at least three weeks.
I had a set of eyelash extensions applied by Melisa Ferriola, the owner of Lasting Looks in Hockessin. She has been perfecting eyelash extension application for the past five years, and is one of the most experienced at it in the state.
Her salon, Lasting Looks, specializes in the art of permanent cosmetics, but she said eyelash extensions can be looked at as "semi-permanent."
"Just as women go and get their nails filled every few weeks, women come in and get their lashes filled," she said.
The process of eyelash extensions is simple and painless for the client. Ferriola offers a number of different sets of lash extensions: wink sets have 20 to 25 lashes per eye; demi sets have 40 to 60 lashes per eye; and a full set has 70 to 100 lashes per eye. A full set takes approximately 90 to 120 minutes to apply, whereas a wink set will only take 45 minutes.
With eyelash extensions, you no longer have to apply mascara every morning. They are waterproof, smudge proof, and natural.
Ferriola said that many women get extensions for special events, including weddings, but she said many of her older clients get them to make them look more awake. She said it is a great option for younger girls going to prom.
