  • As a fun way to challenge you to experience new authors, the Hockessin Book Shelf will introduce its new in-store promotional game, named "Hockessin Book Shelf Bingo," on Feb. 7.
A demonstration of the game will be held at the Hockessin Book Shelf on the day of its premier.
Living up to its name, "Hockessin Book Shelf Bingo" is played on a redesigned bingo card. Instead of numbers, the 25 spaces on the card are mostly filled with genres of books. The book categories on the card range from romance to nonfiction, and seemingly every category therein, from pet and animal varieties to paranormal romance.
Then there's the "Free Square" at the center of the board, which doesn't mean you earn a free space, but rather it's for the first book you purchase at the Book Shelf. Once you've purchased a book from the shop that falls under one of the select genres on the card, you get to mark that space, said Rebecca Dowling, owner of the Book Shelf.
Rules state that all books must be purchased at the Book Shelf from Feb. 7 through Dec. 31. There are four ways to win, and only four wins per card. For getting bingo, participants can win a free used book under $10. Achieving double bingo will earn you a free used book under $20. Filling up the frame of the card will earn you a free used book for under $30. And filling the entire card wins you a $10 gift certificate to use at the store.
