A man who witnessed a theft from a purse helped Troopers apprehend the suspect on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Rite Aid, 2713 Philadelphia Pike, at 1:45 p.m. A 91-year-old female from Claymont was entering her vehicle when Precious Sanders, 26, of Wilmington, opened the rear driver's side door of the vehicle, reached into the victim's purse, and removed the victim's wallet. Sanders then fled on foot, and the victim returned to the store and alerted the store staff to the theft.

A passerby who witnessed the theft and followed Sanders called 911 and provided dispatchers with a detailed description of Sanders and her location. This information allowed Troopers to apprehend Sanders nearby.

Sanders was transported to Troop 1 and charged with burglary third degree (for the unlawful entry of the vehicle) and theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 years of age or older. She was committed to Baylor Women's Correctional Institute on $10,000 secured bail.
