Sweet treats include heart-shaped bread and Mardi Gras King Cakes.

If you adore chocolate or cinnamon, surround yourself with decadent treats available this month at the Newark Great Harvest Bread Company located at 4154 Ogletown-Stanton Rd. The bakery plans to daze and delight customers with an array of sweet treats including Cinnamon Chip Hearts and their signature Bread Kisses.

Among the popular items will be Rocky Road bread with rich cocoa, dark chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and walnuts. Also featured is the Dark Chocolate Cherry Swirl bread. It’s a chocolate lover’s dream featuring dark chocolate chips, a crumb filling and sweet cherries rolled in a lightly sweet, fresh dough. Bread Kisses are a unique gift featuring your favorite Great Harvest bread wrapped festively for Valentine’s Day like a chocolate kiss.

February is a time of love and celebration,” says owner Kathy Cappiello. “In recognition of Valentine’s Day, we’ll be baking up amazing chocolate treats everyday. We all deserve an indulgence now and again and it should taste amazing. Our goal is to delight customers with gift ideas and handcrafted hot-out-of-the-oven daily specials. These are a great way to show someone you love or care for them.”

The bakery is also preparing special treats for Mardi Gras, which takes place Feb. 12, including traditional King Cakes. Other goodies available include Brandywine Berry bread, a whole grain loaf with traditional Nine Grain mix, tangy cranberries and maple flavor, and Harvest Beer bread, a whole wheat loaf with aged cheddar cheese and Black and Tan beer.

Cappiello says tasting is believing, and encourages locals and visitors to stop in anytime for a free slice of breads and sweets hot-out-of-the oven. “Our bakery is rooted in generosity and we thoroughly enjoy sharing our daily creations.”
