  • The Delaware Children's Theatre will present the classic story of a wooden puppet with big dreams, as part of the Theatre's 40th season. "Pinocchio" opens Saturday and will run each Saturday and Sunday afternoon through Feb. 10.
"This show is an important part of our 40th Anniversary Season. "Pinocchio" was the first show that founder Marie Swajeski produced and directed when she opened the Delaware Children's Theatre in 1973," stated Donna Swajeski, who's the vice president and a creative director with the Theatre. Swajeski is producing "Swajeski" for the eighth time since 1973.
This show features a cast of more than 30 adults, teens and children and is directed by Tom Marshall. The Musical Director is Tony Romano. The show features veteran actors Trip Ivie as Geppetto the Puppet Maker and Mary Spacht as the Blue Fairy. Veteran comedic actor, Dan Healy, will play the Fox.
Pinocchio will be played by William Rotsch; he's 13 years old and will be performing in his 12th production at the Delaware Children's Theatre. Most recently he performed with the Wilmington Ballet at the DuPont Theatre and OperaDelaware.
    Boy with a dream
"Pinocchio" follows this classic story: Poor old Geppetto is such a kind, gentle fellow, and the Blue Fairy makes it possible for his puppet, Pinocchio, to become a real boy. The problem is that Pinocchio meets up with the Cat and the Fox and keeps getting into trouble — and for some reason, his nose keeps growing! Pinocchio learns that being "real" means he must tell the truth.
