On Thursday night Salesianum and St. Mark's renewed their rivalry, this time on the ice rink for the DFRC "Hockey For a Cause" charity game.
The Spartans and Salesianum don't usually meet on the ice and due to St. Mark's 11 man roster, Salesianum used a mixture of their Varsity and JV teams to create 3 separate teams to compete in each period on Thursday night.
Salesianum's Patrick Cunningham posted a first period hat trick to help pace Sallies. J.P Sawyer, Dan Thompson, Tiernan Saningen, Terry Logue, and Zachary Zbranak would add goals to put Salesianum up 8-0 after one period of play.
The second period would be more of the same as Salesianum continued to dominate, this time by a 5-1 score. The period was highlighted by a 2-goal effort from Dan Crisona.
St. Mark's captain Jeremy Wagner would tally the only St. Mark's goal of the game in the second period.
Sallies would take the third period, as well. Sophomore Gabe Moser would score 2 of Salesianum's 3 goals for a 3-0 third period win.
Before the game St. Mark's and Salesianum participated in an Alumni Game which was also won by Salesianum, 5-3.
Thursday's festivities were the first of seven events planned by the DFRC (Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with intellectual disABILITIES) this year.
The event featured games, contests, and a silent auction all to benefit the DFRC.
