A 24-year-old woman died in a two-car collision Thursday night on Churchmans Road near the Christiana Mall.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident that happened at 10:49 p.m., near Iroquois Court, just east of Interstate 95.
Robert L. Vanaskey Jr., 37, of New Castle, was traveling west on Churchmans Road in a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am when his vehicle crossed the double yellow line in the center of the road, police said.
His car entered the eastbound lane, where it struck an eastbound 1992 Honda Accord driven by Melissa L. Foraker, 24, of New Castle.
Both vehicles came to a stop on Churchmans Road near Iroquois Court.
Foraker, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Vanaskey was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition, police said.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is still investigating this incident. Police don't know why Vanaskey's car crossed the center line, and they don't known if he was properly restrained.
Churchmans Road was closed for about two-and-a-half hours as police investigated and emergency crews cleared the crash.
