Are you interested in naming the new elementary school that will be constructed on Graves Road in Hockessin?
Do you want to have a say in naming the new elementary school that will soon break ground on Graves Road in Hockessin?
The Red Clay School District is asking members of the community to participate in the naming process, by nominating a significant educator or member of the Red Clay Community.
The name of the building may also specify a geographic region served by the building.
The district will be accepting nominations for names until and February 1, 2013.
After the nomination period, a committee including Red Clay employees and community members will evaluate the names and make a recommendation to the Red Clay School Board.
The new K-5 school was part of a major capital referendum approved by voters in February 2012. During the referendum, the district committed to an open and transparent process for the capital projects and we are excited to involve the community in this exciting project.
The school is scheduled to open for the 2015 school year, but groundbreaking is expected during the summer of 2013.
Nominations must be accompanied by the following:
100 signatures from individuals in the community who support the effort Two letters of support from state legislators who represent the Red Clay Consolidated School DistrictFive letters of recommendation from community members including current/previous Red Clay employees, residents of the Red Clay Consolidated School District, and current/former students of the Red Clay Consolidated School District (or its component districts prior to 1981)According to Ted Ammann, Assistant Superintendent/District Operations, two nominations have already been received. William Cooke Elementary, which would be named after the former principal at Brandywine Springs as well as Forest Oak Elementary. The second suggestion received was Graves Road Elementary. “The submitter felt that would make it easier to find the school,” Ammann said.
