Wild Birds Unlimited hosted the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, which brought their Scales and Tales program to Hockessin.
If you happened to be out and about in Hockessin on Saturday, Nov. 24, shopping local on Small Business Saturday, then perhaps you heard the call of the wild coming from Wild Birds Unlimited.
The store hosted the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, which brought their Scales and Tales program to Hockessin.
The program features live raptors, including a Great Horned Owl, Screech Owl, Red Tail Hawk and a Broad Wing Hawk.
Owner Charles Shattuck said the event was extremely well attended. "I estimate there were over a hundred people in the store at any given time. You couldn't get into the parking lot and cars were lined down Yorklyn Road," he said.
Shattuck brought the family-friendly program to the store as a way to thank his loyal customers for shopping and supporting his small store throughout the year. "It was heartening to hear the personal thanks as customers exited the store after gazing at the birds," Shattuck said.
