The Delaware State Police are investigating a pedestrian crash that killed a Townsend woman Thursday night just north of Wilmington.
The crash occurred at 7:51 p.m. on Concord Pike (U.S. 202), north of Murphy Road.
Mary Jane Stebner, 37, of Townsend, was running east from the median across the northbound lanes of Concord Pike. She was struck by a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling north in the center lane operated by Carl M. Golden, 76, of Wilmington, police said.
Stebner was wearing dark clothing and crossing in an unlit area, police said. She was transported to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Golden, who was properly restrained, was not injured. No charges have been filed, police said.
The northbound lanes of Concord Pike were closed for about an hour-and-a-half as police investigated and cleared the crash.
