Hockessin Montessori students are decorating sea shells that will be used to make lapel pins to help with relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Each pin will represent “A Shell for the Shore.” Along with the seashells pins, the children are offering buttons and seashell note cards. The cost per item is $5.00, but additional donations are welcome.
All the money will go to the New Jersey Food Bank, which desperately needs monetary donations to help feed people who have lost their homes, as well as supplying meals for the workers helping with the cleanup effort.
In just the first day of the donation drive, the school has already collected approximately $850 in donations.
In addition, the school is collecting cold weather clothing such as coats, sweaters, and sweatpants for the victims in the devastated communities of New Jersey. The clothing will be donated to area churches who will then distribute the items directly to the families in need. The students and families have already gathered and delivered approximately 8 large bags of winter clothing.
In an effort to get this money and clothing to the victims in a timely fashion, the school plans to run both drives until Tuesday, Nov. 20 so that the donations will be received before the Holiday.
