  • Bullock begins term as NCCo Council President Tuesday

  • County Council President elect Dr. Chris Bullock will be sworn into office Tuesday at 5 p.m.
    Bullock, who is also the founder and pastor at the Canaan Baptist Church of New Castle, will begin his new role at County Council's bi-weekly meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 13.
    "I plan on being a president that cooperates with my colleagues," Bullock said. "I will take care of the business of the people. After four years, you will see positive changes in the county because of our leadership."
    On Nov. 6, Bullock defeated Republican Mike Protack in the general elections by a landslide margin.
    As New Castle County Council President, Bullock said that he plans on sponsoring and supporting legislation that will improve the quality of life for citizens.
    He plans on addressed land use, economic development, and public safety issues.
    Bullock wants to focus on public safety and wants to shift the county's crime prevention methods.
    "We are fortunate enough to have an outstanding county police department, and I want to help them continue to be the best in the region," he said. "There will be a shift in crime prevention and outreach involving young people."
    Crime in New Castle County is not only in the city of Wilmington, Bullock said.
    "Public safety is high on the list. There are unlawful activities in the county going on with drug dealing, prostitution, and loitering. There are a number of issues that need to be addressed."
