  • After winning their first game of the season, it's been rough going for the Charter Force football squad.
Losers of six straight, they were hoping to avoid another loss on Saturday morning to the Appoquinimink Jaguars.
The Jaguars were coming off a loss to powerhouse Middletown.
In the first half, it looked as if the Force were ready to pull an upset taking a 14-7 lead into halftime.
After an Appo passing touchdown to open the scoring, Charter responded with two scores of their own.
First, sophomore QB Matt Oliver found WR Jarrett Ross for a 37-yard score. Then, Oliver would throw his second touchdown pass of the day, this time a 10-yard score to Rob Johnston. Oliver found Ross Kamen to complete a two-point conversion, putting the Force up by one score heading to the break.
After Charter failed to score on their first drive of the second half, Appoquinimink drove down the field to tie the game. Appo QB Shane Anderson found Andre Connally on an 18-yard screen pass for his first of three second-half touchdowns.
Connally would then score on a 65-yard run to give the Jags a 21-14 lead heading into the final stanza.
Charter still had some life, led by strong play by quarterback Matt Oliver.
Oliver threw his third touchdown pass of the day this time a long 50-yard strike to Evan Carson to bring Charter even at 21 apiece.
Unfortunately, Appo would go on to tally the final two score of the game, both rushing touchdowns from Connally and a quarterback keeper from Anderson.
The loss puts the Force at 1-7 on the season. Next Saturday Charter will host A.I. du Pont in their last home game of the season.
