RelyLocal Newark, a shop local/buy local campaign, sponsored their first cash mob in Hockessin on Monday, Oct. 22 at the Hockessin Book Shelf.
RelyLocal Newark sponsored their first cash mob in Hockessin on Monday, Oct. 22 at the Hockessin Book Shelf.
The purpose of cash mobs is to support both local businesses and the overall community. The concept was inspired by the fad of flash mobs, however, the idea of a cash mob is to show support and put money into the registers of local business at a time they need it most.
The rules of the cash mob are simple: Show up promptly at 5:30 p.m. and bring at least $10 that you pledge to spend at the business.
Immediately following the cash mob, participants were invited to attend a free wine and craft beer tasting at Premier Wine & Spirits, located at 2052 Limestone Road.
"This will be our third Cash Mob, and first in the Hockessin area," Stephen Orens said, owner of RelyLocal Newark. "We are excited to expose community members to great local businesses they may be unaware of. Hockessin is a hidden gem of these exact types of business. We hear the benefits of supporting local business and the local economy all over the media. Now is the time, as a community, to take action and show our local businesses that we are there for them."
