The Christina Conservancy and partners are seeking volunteers to participate in an invasive plant removal event at the Peterson Marsh on October 20.
There will be two sessions: 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Peterson Marsh on Christina River, 1400 Delmarva Lane, Wilmington. Twenty-five people are needed for each event. Participants will focus on cutting or removing some non-native, rapidly spreading pest plants like Asian bittersweet, Japanese honeysuckle, and bush honeysuckles.
Gloves, some hand tools, trash bags, and water will be provided. Participants are asked to bring hand clippers, branch loppers, small hand saws if available, and waterproof boots or mud sneakers. Everyone will meet across the footbridge to the DuPont Environmental Education Center building and go down to the bottom of the stairs.
