Police charge a Dover man with a murder that took place in the 100 block of Jeffrey Drive, London Village in Magnolia on Sept. 25, 2009.
Jermaine M. Zachary, 21, was charged with murder in the second degree, two counts of attempted robbery in the first degree, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and conspiracy in the second degree.
Police say that the victim, Robert W. Watkins, 40, of Seaford, made arrangements with Zachary and another unknown male suspect to purchase a dog. Zachery was sitting in the back seat of the car, and the unknown suspect was standing outside the passenger window. While discussing the price for the dog, the unknown male suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded money.
Investigators believe the victim and his driver attempted to get away, but the suspect shot Watkins in the stomach; Zachery jumped out and ran away. Watkins was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital.
