The Special Olympics Delaware Equestrian Competition took place last weekend at Carousel Park.

More than 70 athletes from four area stables competed at the Special Olympics Delaware Equestrian Competition on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Carousel Park Equestrian Center.

Athletes competed in a variety of events in the categories of Dressage, English Equitation, Stock Seat Equitation and Working Trails. The fifth annual event was organized by Carly Thompson, director of the TRAC Program at Carousel, with more than 40 volunteers supporting the event.

"This year we have more participants than we've ever had," Thompson said, equestrian program coordinator. "Each year, we are excited for the opportunity to introduce the sport of equestrian to more and more athletes, and of course, really enjoy seeing our returning athletes gain more confidence in their handling of the horses."

"I'm best at trotting," said Caitlin Coughlan, of Hockessin said. Coughlan has participated in all four past events.
