Brad Keselowski used superb fuel management, and perhaps a little luck, to win the AAA 400 Sunday afternoon at Dover Downs International Speedway.
Keselowski claimed his second checkered flag in the last three races, and his first such victory at the Monster Mile.
Kyle Busch led the majority of the race, but like many others, he didn’t have enough gas to last down the stretch. After Busch fell out of the lead, Jeff Gordon and Keselowski went head-to-head through the final 10 laps, but the #2 car was able to hold off Gordon for the win.
With the win, Keselowski becomes the point leader for the Sprint Cup Championship. It’s his fifth win of the season after winning four races combined coming into this season.
Jimmie Johnson, one of many drivers who weren’t able to make the final push due to lack of fuel, finished 4th and stands 5 points behind Keselowski in the Chase for the Cup. Behind Keselowski and Johnson are Denny Hamlin, Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart who round out the rest of the top 5 in the Sprint Cup standings with seven races to go.
