  • Raise your glass to the fine arts of brewing, fermenting, and distilling at Brandywine Valley sites this fall. Information below; visit BMGA member institutions' websites for more details.
     
    The Delaware Historical Society, in conjunction with Hagley Museum and Library, invites you to Think & Drink: Food & Beer Pairing on Thursday, September 27, starting at 6 p.m. Mix a little history with the opportunity to visit Wilmington's newest taproom, Ernest & Scott. The event starts at Old Town Hall at 5th and Market Streets in Wilmington and includes a talk about the history of beer-making presented by Hagley, a short walking tour along Market Street, five beer samples, and five food samples.     Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School of Philadelphia returns to the Delaware Art Museum for "Art is Social" on Friday, September 28, 8–11 p.m. Amateur and experienced artists alike are invited to sketch Victorian-era costumed models in a series of quick poses. The evening will also feature live entertainment, free beer- and wine-tastings provided by Frank's Union Wine Mart, and a chance to see the Museum's renowned Pre-Raphaelite collection. Tickets: Free for members, $5 for non-members.
     
    Explore the Picturing Poe exhibition and the wines of Spain at the Brandywine River Museum Wednesday, October 10, 6–8 p.m. This special evening event, hosted by the Young Friends of the Brandywine Conservancy and sponsored by Brandywine Fine Properties/Sotheby's International Realty, was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "The Cask of Amontillado." Tickets: $25 for members; $35 non-members.

    Uncorked! Wine, Objects & Tradition at Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library celebrates the objects and imagery created by society's relationship with wine from the 1600s–1800s. Guided gallery tours are offered daily, and special Members-only tours offer visitors deeper insight into wining and dining in America. Tours explore the exhibition and enjoy tours of areas of the house not often seen by the general public.
     
    In association with Uncorked!, Winterthur hosts The Art of Food & Wine Pairing on Friday, October 12 and Friday, November 9, 6:30–8 p.m. (Museum Galleries open at 5:30). Enjoy an evening of wine-tasting paired with delicious hors d'oeuvres with Bouchaine Vineyards on October 12 and Pasternak Wine Imports on November 9. $50 per nonmember; $45 per Member and per one guest/member. Reservations required; call 888-4826.


    Wining and Dining Tours are held every Friday from September 28 through November 16, 3:30–4:30 pm.
     
    On October 25, 12:15 p.m. in the Rotunda, enjoy a Lunchtime Lecture: The Wine Cellar at Winterthur. Examine the history of wine-drinking at Winterthur from the early 20th century through Prohibition and into the 1960s with Estate Historian Maggie Lidz. Free to Members; lecture included with Admission Ticket for nonmembers.
     
    Join the Golden Pheasants at Hagley Museum and Library, on Thursday, October 25, 5:30–7 p.m. for the Golden Pheasants Seagram's Tasting. Sample old and new Seagram products and explore the early history of this distilled spirits company. Chief Curator of Library Collections Lynn Catanese will be on hand to discuss highlights from Hagley's collection on Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc. Jared Card from The Wine and Spirits Company of Greenville will provide a tasting of Seagram products, including a special mixed drink in honor of our Golden Pheasants members. Enjoy light refreshments and a few cannon firings to warm up on this fall evening. Cost is $15 per person. Must be 21 or older. Reservations requested.
