The hills of Tennessee not only offer you beautiful surroundings, but also fun things to do.

To get a real sense of the views this area has to offer travel Foothill Parkway.

Jump on the Parkway in Townsend, Tennessee. This area of the parkway offers a view like none other. Visitors get a fantastic look at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park's face that includes mountain vistas.

??The fall is a great time to travel this area, but it is wonderful anytime of year. Make sure your camera batteries are charged! You will want to take a lot of pictures. The views in the early evening are the best. The light at that time makes for a spectacular show with the shadows, something that is not visible any other time of the day.

Park rangers for the Great Smokey Mountains say that traveling the parkway gives you the panoramic view of the park. It extends 18 miles and is a peaceful ride.

When you reach the highpoint of the mountain you are at Look Rock.

Look Rock offers visitors a natural ledge that serves as a scenic overlook of the park. The best view is from the observation tower. It provides a 360 degree mountain view. This area gives travelers a quiet place away from the more traveled roads of the national park.

To get to the tower follow the half mile hike. It is rated as an easy walk. The
Look Rock area does have a picnic area and restrooms and it is open all year. When the visibility is good you can see 22 miles away to Clingman's dome, the highest dome in the national park. The road is dangerous and it is suggested you do not drive to the area when there is snow www.smokies.ws/lookrock/.

Townsend has around 5 miles of paved bikeway. It runs parallel to US 321. The area offers plenty of room to explore for hikers and bikers.
<> Foothills Parkway is located off Highway 321, just west of Townsend. There are signs designate picnic areas and campground. This section of the Parkway travels along the backbone of the Chilhowee Mountain between Chilhowee Lake and Townsend.
