  • In the most anticipated game of this young football season, the Dover Senators hosted Salesianum on Friday night.
The two teams met in similar fashion last season, Salesianum defeated Dover 38-0.
This time around the game itself was different, the outcome was the same as Salesianum defeated Dover Friday night by the slimmest of margins, 22-21.
The game was close the entire night, Dover struck first with a 13-yard touchdown strike from QB Ian Gory to WR Jordon Robinson. Minutes later, Salesianum got on the scoreboard to tie the game when Troy Reeder muscled through the Dover defensive for a 3-yard touchdown run.
Salesianum would tally the first score of the quarter. Reeder would strike yet again with another 3-yard touchdown run capped off by a two-point conversion also run in by Reeder.
Salesianum took a 15-7 lead into halftime.
Dover's Donovan Cain pulled the Senators to within a point when he ran one in from 2-yards out. After forcing Salesianum to punt, the Senators again drove down the field. They would take the lead when Gory found Tavarus Sample for a long 39-yard touchdown pass after Sallies had bitten hard on the play-action pass.
In a game this close, the winner would be decided by whichever team could make the big play in crunch time. On Friday night, Salesianum would be the team to make the crucial play when the game was on the line.
Salesianum's QB Matt Sgro found TE Brian O'Neill for a 50-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter on Sallies first pass attempt of the game.
The Dover offense was held down the rest of the fourth quarter, as Sallies held on for the 22-21 win.
The Senators will host St. Mark's next week, while Sallies will look to go 3-0 when they visit Caesar Rodney.
