  • The Fraternal Order of Police held a press conference on Wednesday to announce their endorsements of candidates in the race for Mayor, New Castle County Executive, and the 7th District Council seat in the City of Wilmington.
The F.O.P. endorsed Dennis P. Williams for Mayor, Tom Gordon for New Castle County Executive, and Bob Williams for City Council.
All men have a history in public safety – Gordon was the Chief of Police for New Castle County, Dennis Williams served 15 years with the Wilmington Police Department, and Bob Williams is a retired lieutenant in the Special Operations Division.
All three candidates tackled the issue of heightened crime in the city of Wilmington.
“We do not have a solid public safety base,” Gordon said, who held the New Castle County Executive position once before.
Dennis Williams said as mayor, he is going to take back to streets of Wilmington.
“I am going after violent offenders,” he said. “The streets of Wilmington are running red with blood.”
Dennis Williams said he’s already crafted a “Safe Neighborhoods Initiative” plan, that will target high crime areas, improve community relations, and reform the Wilmington Police Department.
Bob Williams retired from the Wilmington Police Department after 20 years and is also a registered nurse.
“Districts need to be re-aligned and officers need to be on foot,” he said. “The Wilmington Police Department needs to be fully staffed and budget cuts need to be made elsewhere.”
