  • Fiddle tune lovers, feast your eyes and ears on a heaping helping of stringed music at the St. Georges Bluegrass Festival on Saturday, July 14. The inaugural event will be held at the Commodore Center.
The event will feature the following bands: Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike; Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass; Marc Silver & the Stonethrowers; and Acrossthetrack Bluegrass.
Here’s an appetizer of info about two of the acts in the show.
    A ‘Silver’ lining
Marc Silver & the Stonethrowers, of Philadelphia, blend a passion for traditional song, Appalachian fiddle tunes, and country swing with a unique mix of original songwriting, bluegrass and folk music. In addition, seamlessly blended three-part vocal harmonies fill out the crew’s energetic delivery.
The band, led by frontman Marc Silver, has played throughout the east coast, including prestigious venues like the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the World Café Live and the Kimmel Center.
    ‘Southern Grass’ stains
Danny Paisley and The Southern Grass, of Landenberg, Pa., are deeply rooted in tradition, but look to the future with enthusiasm and anticipation.
The band was selected to be an official International Bluegrass Music Association showcase performer for the event. Furthermore, Danny Paisley and The Southern Grass’s album, "Don’t Throw Mama’s Flowers Away," won the 2009 International Bluegrass Music Association award for Song of the Year. The band has also garnered several IBMA nominations for Emerging Artist of The Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year.
