St. Mark's Calvin Scott hit a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning to put the Spartans into Tuesday's championship game.
The Spartans took the lead early on a Nicholas Trimarco sacrifice fly that scored Jeffrey Zeimba to give St. Mark's a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. St. Mark's would increase their lead to 2-0 in the 5th when Bradley Nowell scored on an error after reaching base on a walk and stealing second base.
St. Mark's starting pitcher Sam Rogers held the Ravens hitless until the 6th inning, when Sussex Tech would also get on the scoreboard. William Bayko registered the Ravens first hit of the game, he reached second base on an error putting him on second and Nathan Justis who had gotten on base after drawing a walk on third. That set the table for Hunter Absher who hit an RBI single to put the Ravens on the board. The very next batter for Sussex Tech, Ryan Muchmore laid down a squeeze bunt which tied the game at 2-2 heading into the 7th and final inning.
After the Tech offense was set-down in the top half of the 7th it was the Spartans turn to end the game in walk-off fashion.
Bradley Nowell led the inning off with a single; Nicholas Trimarco sacrificed Nowell over to second next. After an Andrew Spagnolo ground out, it was Calvin Scott's time to be a hero. Scott looped a Marvel pitch over the shortstops head scoring Nowell to send the Spartans to the state championship game.
The Spartans will take on Milford, who defeated Caravel 3-1 on Saturday, in Tuesday’s championship game.
