  • Polytech's Antonio DePina led all scorers with 21 points, but it wasn't enough to send the Panthers to the Semifinals as they fell to Concord 60-46.
The Panthers seemed to be in pretty good shape coming out of halftime with a 25-15 lead and momentum on their side.
However, Polytech came out flat in the second half, and their offense went cold. Concord took full advantage forcing turnovers and turning them into points, eventually gaining the lead back.
Polytech made a run late in the fourth quarter but Concord was able to hold back the Panther threat and pull out the win.
"In the second half we didn't have as much intensity on defense," said Polytech's Eric Laster. "We had a let-down in the second half, it's hard to counter it and they ended up taking the win, it's a learning experience we just have to move on."
Laster and his team had a hard time figuring out what exactly went wrong for them in the second half and why they weren't able to match the Concord intensity.
"I don't know what it was, I thought we were focused in the second half," said Laster. "On defense they picked it up and that swung the momentum. I thought we still could have pulled out the win but unfortunately we didn't."
Head Coach John Pierce points to turnovers and out-of-sync play that eventually did-in the Panthers.
"I think we had three turnovers back-to-back-to-back and they scored off of them," said Polytech Head Coach John Pierce. "We called a timeout but they had momentum on their side and the game changed. Sometimes it's like that, they came out in the second half and they wanted it a little more than us, we tried to fight back at the end of the fourth but they picked it back up again."
We didn't execute down the stretch," said Pierce. "We didn't push the ball like we should and I give them the credit on defense."
