  •   Prior to Friday night’s Flight B finale against visiting St. Georges Tech, Mount Pleasant boys basketball coach Lisa Sullivan had not mentioned the DIAA state tournament to her team at all.
But after the Green Knights jumped out to a 10-point first quarter lead and held on a for 70-64 win over the Hawks, Sullivan had no other choice but to start talking tourney. “We never mentioned after a game until tonight, and I let them know they were in,” Sullivan said. “Mount Pleasant hadn’t made the playoffs since 1999 and I didn’t want another senior class to miss out on that experience.”
Three of those seniors made sure they didn’t miss out on their chance, led by high flying guard Paris Holland, who scored a game-high 30 points. Backcourt mate Tomir Gibbs added 22 points and center Korahon Carpenter contributed 16 points as Mount Pleasant led for the entire game. “We control our attitude and effort and we’re confident in ourselves,” Holland said. “If we play 100 percent all the time, we’ll be fine.”
“We just have to come out and play hard every night,” Gibbs said. “Defense is the key for us.” It didn’t hurt to have three seniors combine for 68 points in a game that went a long way to their fourth win in a row.
“We’re real tough when all three of us play together,” Holland said.  E-mail Chris Stevens at chris.stevens@doverpost.com
