  • Julie Macedo has received plenty of recognition and accolades throughout her cross country career. On Tuesday, all of those things came together for the nationally ranked runner.
Early Tuesday morning along with her family and coaches Macedo officially signed her letter of intent to attend the University of Florida.
“I’m so excited it’s been a long process,” said Macedo. “I’m excited that it’s official now and I’ll be running for the Gators next year.”
The Middletown, Del. native has worked hard for the last four years to get to this point. A highly touted runner, Macedo has been featured in countless national publications, including Sports Illustrated.
Macedo was able to live up to the hype securing all-state and all-conference honors while finishing as Division I state champion the last two seasons.
“I worked really hard over the past four years I’ve learned so much from my coaches and I’ve become a much more mature runner,” said Macedo. “I feel like I’m ready to compete at the next level.”
While being courted by many high level colleges, Macedo ultimately decided to go to Florida.
“I definitely wanted to go south, there was no going north,” Macedo joked.
All kidding aside, Florida has a very successful cross country program. The women’s team finished as conference champions in 2009 and 2010 while making appearances in the NCAA championships four out of the last six seasons.
Macedo feels she already has the drive and desire to help contribute to future success’ at Florida.
“(Florida) is getting someone who is very dedicated,” said Macedo. “ I want to succeed, I want to work for my team and be the best athlete I can.”
