Mark your calendars, mateys! The Kalmar Nyckel Foundation will host Wilmington's first ever Pirate Day.

The event will kickoff on Saturday, July 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Tubman-Garrett Park on Wilmington's Riverfront. Admission is free, but some activities will charge a small fee

Sea dogs and scallywags of all ages are encouraged to join in on the fun from Pirate Day will feature a wide variety of activities including a pirate parade, costume contest, crafts and activities, food and music. Additionally, there will be pirates from regional pirate crews sharing stories about the history of piracy on the Delaware River and what the lives of pirates were like 300 years ago. 

Musical entertainment will be hosted by WJBR's Catey Hill, featuring New Sweden, Pirates for Sail, Scales and Crosstones and the Diamond State Concert Band.  
Pirate Day attendees are encouraged, but not required, to come in authentic pirate garb and participate in the pirate parade and costume contest. A real pirate panel will select two winners (one adult and one child) to receive special prizes from the Wilmington Blue Rocks.

Adult Prize: Four tickets to the evening Blue Rocks pirate-themed game, and the honor of throwing out the Ceremonial First Pitch!

Child Prize: Four tickets to the evening Blue Rocks pirate-themed Game, and the honor of giving the official "Play Ball" command at the start of the game.

All are welcomed to continue the festivities at the Blue Rocks Pirate Night game on July 9, scheduled for 6:05 PM start time. (Gates open at 5 p.m.). There will be prizes for fans dressed in pirate garb.

Kalmar Nyckel will also be offering an evening sail on the Christina River departing Tubman-Garrett Park at 6 pm. Space is limited. Those interested in booking a sail, should call 429-7447 for reservations.
